must knit this sweater......

Stitch Diva Studios have just released the new pattern for purchase of Sahara!
I absolutely must knit this sweater...I love love love it! It does call for Tilli Tomas yarns, but offers suggestions for other yarn substitutions. I am off to go and purchase this pattern right now.........

Everyday Tweed put on hold.....

My Everyday Tweed Sweater has been hidden into my Wip pile and will not be touched until after I have finished all of the xmas gifts I still have to knit. It is so hard though, because I love the way the Jo Sharp Silkroad is knitting up. It looks so pretty and is so soft to touch...and I can't wait to wear the sweater...as I desperately need winter clothes cause it is chillin over here in Canada.

Hand dyed sock yarn from Sock Monkey Yarns purchased off of ebay. Now, I wonder whose feet will be blessed from wearing these socks (to all you non-knitters...no you do not have to wrap this around your foot...you have to wait for someone to knit the yarn up into socks)

mission not impossible falls

I was not happy with the images and colors of the Mission Falls wool on my site shop. So to remedy this, I spent many many hours photographing all the various colors of yarn that I have available. I used natural light to try my best to show the true colors. I am happy with the results because on my monitor they show up quite true to life. You can check out my new page of Mission Falls wool at www.solstitch.net (dont' be shy)

fiber frenzy
I took a first spin on my new wheel the other day. Thanks to Mary (my Lendrum DT) and my uncoordinated feet and hands, I managed to make a fabulous twisted mess.
For your viewing pleasure:

At first, I could not get the yarn to wind onto the bobbin. So of course, the fiber ended up getting spun, double spun and triple spun unto itself. After undoing this and starting my second attempt, I managed to get the fiber wound onto the bobbin, but could not get any twist at all. So all I had was broken, half twisted fiber messed around the bobbin. With all this frustration, I decided to just walk away before I ended up kicking and screaming at poor Mary. It wasn't Mary's fault by any means, but my own for not reading my book first before attempting to spin. I was just impatient and figured I could just hop right on and spin gold. My third attempt (after my break) yielded some results...the fiber was twisting, the wheel was turning in the right direction, and the yarn was winding onto the bobbin. It felt great and it was hard to stop. But once I looked at my great production, I had to laugh, because I know this is not the way the yarn is supposed to look. For some reason, it looks like little twisty worms invaded my yarn and decided to call it their habitat. My guess is that I was either treadling to fast, or not drafting properly. I hope my next attempt will bring better results.

On the knitting front, I am scrambling to make headway on all the x-mas gifts I had decided to knit up with love for family and friends. I can't help but glance at the calender and think, "crap, I don't think I could possibly finish all of these...not unless I quit my day job and knit until my fingers fall off" But at least my day job allows me to have some knitting time. Piece of advice: Teach your boss how to knit. Knitting is funner, and goes faster, when you have someone to knit with.
Unfortunately, I cannot share these projects with you, as the victims of my gifted knits all read this blog. (sorry guys!)

How Old is Your Inner Child?

My inner child is ten years old!

The adult world is pretty irrelevant to me. Whether I'm off on my bicycle (or pony) exploring, lost in a good book, or giggling with my best friend, I live in a world apart, one full of adventure and wonder and other stuff adults don't understand.

Look what I got today in the mail.
Alden Amos Big Book of Handspinning. This book has absolutely everything in it that has to do with spinning. I just took a quick flip through the book, as I had to finish cleaning house, but I will definitely cuddle up with it on the couch this evening. I hope this book will get me starting in learning how to use my new wheel (yes, Mary).
I have also cast on for a new project yesterday. It is the Everyday Tweed Sweater which can be found at www.thegarterbelt.com
I am using Jo Sharp Silkroad DK Tweed in a dark chocolate brown color. I can say that this yarn is sure soft and is knitting up very nicely. Hopefully this sweater will turn out better than my last knitted sweater disaster.
I have started a knit-a-long on my message boards, which can be found at www.solstitch.net
Please post if you would like to join me in knitting up the Everyday Tweed.
I have also listed a new charity which can also be found at my shop site. Hats off for cancer is a charity that accepts donations of cool, bright and funky hats. They then distribute these hats to children suffering from cancer and to various hospitals, cancer clinics and camps.
If you are interested in donating hats please check out the link on my site for more information.
In other news, I have received a shipment of Brittany needles straights and they are available for purchase at my site as well.
Happy needling, hooking, twisting, and spinning!

"what goes up, must come down, got me spinning......"
First thing this morning a van pulled into my driveway followed by a knock at my door. This knock caused my crazy dog to bark madly and continuously bounce against the front door. I am quite a grumpy person in the mornings, and I really enjoy the quiet that comes along with it, so of course, this irritated the heck out of me. Also, this postman arrived way too early to even let me have the chance to get decently dressed. So alas, I opened the door, wearing my wonderfully colorful teddy bear pajamas and let my dog loose.

To my surprise, I had 3 huge boxes. Did I say huge? I meant HUGE boxes for me today.

One containing my new precious toy. A Lendrum DT. Now, I have no idea how to spin on a wheel yet, but she sure is pretty. I have named her Mary. She was made by a Canadian (Gord Lendrum) in his workshop out of gorgeous solid maple. Maple is one of my favorite woods, so of course it was love at first sight. Will it be love at first spin? We will have to see.......

The next 2 boxes that were unloaded from the van was my first order of Mission Falls 1824 wool. Oh my god! This yarn is soooooo nice. It is made from 100% merino superwash and the colors are to dye (pardon the pun) for! I immediately set to opening the boxes right then and there on my couch. It took all the strength I had not to squeel and jump onto this luscious pile of fiber goodness and crazily roll in it with glee.

I will be adding this new fiber order to my website soon. I have decided to change web hosts, so I can have a more convenient shopping cart that keeps track of my inventory. It also allows repeat offenders, I mean, customers, to sign in using a username and password.

If anyone is interested in purchasing any of this wonderful fiber from me, please visit my website and contact me via email. I can easily set up an order for you!
